Jeff Johnsgaard, a retired police detective sergeant, dedicated over 20 years to diverse roles in law enforcement, including patrol supervision, investigative work, and specialized teams. With a passion for training, he designed and implemented programs for both academy cadets and experienced officers.

Jeff is recognized as the official heir to the CAR System (Center Axis Relock), a pioneering methodology for close-quarters combat. He has proudly continued to develop and advance the CAR System, enhancing both its techniques and its instructional framework. The latest evolution of this system is the 360° CQD (Close Quarter Defense) training. This comprehensive program builds on the CAR System’s foundation, integrating firearms and physical skills with cutting-edge teaching techniques that improve learning and retention.

A Nationally Certified Instructor through IADLEST, Jeff is also a Force Science® Advanced Specialist and serves as Director of Research for the Reality Based Training Association. He teaches courses for Force Science®, Raptor Protection and his company, which focus on evidence grounded tactics, decision-making, and advanced instructor development.

Jeff’s contributions extend to innovative methods like the 360° CQD vehicle anti-ambush technique, decision-making in use-of-force scenarios, and evidence-based principles for high-pressure situations. Through his company, Natural Tactical, he trains law enforcement, military, and civilians internationally. He has presented at leading forums such as IALEFI and ILEETA and published numerous articles in law enforcement publications.
